The loss of our Andy has been the most heartbreaking (no words do - TopicsExpress

The loss of our Andy has been the most heartbreaking (no words do it justice) thing Dennis and I have ever endured, to say the least. This morning started in quiet for us, each of us struggling. Today was Denniss birthday and Andy would not be calling him as he always did. Last night I had been reading about how to help my 7 year old granddaughter deal with the loss of her Daddy. I read that you need to let them talk and keep talking about her lost Daddy. My sweet daughter (Andys wife) brought her in the office today to wish her Paw Paw a happy birthday! Immediate smiles! She wandered in my office, and remembering what I read, I asked her if she wanted to look at some neat pictures of her Daddy. She looked pained and said no.... I asked her if she wanted to see some videos I had of them together. She said YES! I pulled up a video, taken just this March, of her Daddy picking her up, throwing her over his shoulder like a sack of flour and saying he was taking her to the mail box to mail her off. He stopped and wrote a tickley label to Africa on her leg and took her outside in the dark to the mailbox. It was a great video, and Allie giggled and laughed and retold the story, then wanted to see it 5 more times! Listening to that laughter and her remembering that happy moment with her Daddy was so healing to me! I will be making her copies of these videos so she can play them all of the time, and hear his voice and see his love. She probably opened my locket 10 or 12 times today to see his picture and lock of hair--she will be getting her own locket. I guess Andy did drop by today in the form of his beautiful daughter who I love more than I can even describe. Thank you Andy.
