The lovely chaps at Screen Scene asked me to look at 3Dprinting - TopicsExpress

The lovely chaps at Screen Scene asked me to look at 3Dprinting one or two of the models from the Last Days on Mars for their collectors shelf. This is some of the WIP shots. I took the scan data of Liev Schreiber and prepped it using ZRemesher and dynamesh and them plonked him onto a stand. So far Ive only done some 250 micron test really just to make sure he stands up ok and to see if I need to tweak the mesh much. Ill run another larger (15cm)100 micron test later today after seeing this one. As he was looking fairly ok on this first pass Im going to clean up the model a bit and send it off for a high res output later this week. 250 microns doesnt cut it for the detail but I like to do a low res one first to test the stability and overall form of the piece. Im beginning to think its time I moved up from a Makerbot Replicator. Things are moving so quickly in the 3DPrint world its hard to know what to get to stay current. Although I love the MB I want something with a production finish and you still have to pay significant cash sums for that tech it seems.
