The low average nurse to patient ratio is 6 patients to one nurse - TopicsExpress

The low average nurse to patient ratio is 6 patients to one nurse in America: This means Nurses have 10 minutes each hour with each patient to: Assess patients, educate patients, ensure safety...(turning on and applying all the lastest bells and whistles), update families, notify physicians of changes, look at labs and determine what needs to be addressed, read the physicians plan of care, check orders, give meds, assess intake and output, assist with activities of daily living...(eating, bathroom assists, bathing, and ambulating), make sure patients are prepared for tests, provide information to ancilary departments, go to the desk for the latest 10 minute inservice, ensure that the patient and families feel at home and document that this is indeed what I did for each patient. Nurses are amazing... Pass this on if you are an amazing or know an amazing nurse
