The magnificence of Paraty After a stunning bus tour along the Costa Verde we finally reached one of the most beautiful places so far. Have you ever dreamed about great historic architecture of the 17th century in the middle of atlantic-rainforest rounded by beautiful hills? It’s Paraty! Located on the bay of Ilha grande the town was appointed as world cultural heritage in 1958 because of its beautiful colonial historical center that is well preserved. Walking in the town and seeing carriages crossing narrow alleys on the typical raw cobble-stone pavement (lined by small colonial houses with colorful painted doors) we felt like being in a crazy time warp. It was really worth to take a break in one of the small cafés - feeling the time standing still and enjoying something authentic. Walking on the local beach we meet Michael, an easy going British guy who emigrated 20 years ago working as a guide for a local company called „Paraty Explorer“. After he introduced me to the art of Stand Up Paddling like a Brazilian… ;) … I rounded a small island in the bay, which was a great experience. Afterwards we had a nice chat and made an appointment for a kayak-tour visiting some lone beaches and to discover near mangrove. He provided a great knowledge about the local flora and fauna. In addition we did same snorkeling and watched the frigatebirds catching fish out of the sea. It was a fantastic trip! We decided to stay at „Music Art Hostel“ on the edge of town next to the rainforest, a wise decision and a real recommendation for Paraty. We had a great time there, feeding some common marmoset, watching colorful birds and talking to other travelers about their experiences. Nevertheless, we enjoyed watching a great sunset while refreshing in the big pool after a sunny day. Also we made delicious banana-chips in the evening (by just frying slices of banana in a pan with some oil). It’s always a great feeling to step out of the door and to pick some tropical fruits for dinner. After these relaxing and magnificent days we are heading to the incredible mega-metropolis of São Paulo with 21 mil people living on the area of 8000 square kilometers, the seventh largest in the world…
