The magnitude of American war casualties greatly saddens me, especially since most of my beloved real life friends are American. The saddest, my heart tells me, is the Civil War,. Aside from its just cause, it was brothers killing brothers, and in a time when the total population was only 31 million (Union 22.3 million and Confederacy 9.1 million including 3.5 million salves - less than 10% of todays 330 million). The cause of WW2 is the most just among the series, but 1 million is the population of a major city, or the population of 12 smaller cities like Bellingham WA (pop. 80,000). A sadder factor is that the Allied casualties could have been much lighter had Sun Tzu been heeded by the Allied High Command. Sun Tzu wrote,When attacked, counter attack where the attacker must defend. Following this principle, the Normandy invasion - iron fist versus iron fist - was exactly the wrong strategy. Sun Tzu would have advised that the invasion be conducted on the north coast of Germany itself. Were this done, the German army occupying France, Belgium and the Netherlands would have to be voluntarily withdrawn to defend the Fatherland, and the surrendered French, Belgian and Dutch troops could have risen to attack the retreating German army from the rear. (No offence to my German friends of today, whom I Iove as much as anyone else.) But from an extraterrestrial perspective, all humans are brothers and sisters. Do they really have to invade us to force us to unify humanity as one? No, they dont have to. We already have a common enemy - our own dark side. Conquer ourselves, and our world shall be at peace.
