The major challenge of our time, as politicians of the future - TopicsExpress

The major challenge of our time, as politicians of the future (Well, maybe not me personally!) Will be climate change. Climate change sceptics simply do not realise what is at stake. The arctic and antarctica contain some of the worlds largest reserves of Methane gas. Methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas than CO2. There is enough methane there to double the number of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This might seem like complex science, but, basically, by the time the signs become visible in the 2030s (Estimated), with more extreme weather events, Island and low lying nations such as Bangladesh and the Maldives sinking due to rising sea levels, famine and hunger, loss of crop growth in areas which used to be arable, etc, (Coinciding with oil beginning to run out at around that time) it will be far too late to stop it. Renewables and alternative sources of energy such as nuclear are not being developed fast enough or on the scale that is needed, due to beaurocracy, government wrangling, lack of profitability, and safety issues. The challenge of the politicians of the future will be to respond seriously to the threat an ever faster deteriorating climate poses to the existence of the human race. I know nobody wants to read a long, tedious, and boring rant on FB on Christmas day, but Ill just leave this here. Think very carefully about this-because our response will define the future of humankind.
