The man eating Leopard of Rudraprayag. It was a male man-eating leopard, reputed to have killed over 125 people officially but unofficial figures represent more than double as leopard operated in vast and remote areas on early 20th Century and many of people didn’t report deaths to officials In the autumn of 1925, Jim Corbett took it upon himself to try to kill the leopard and, after many attempts, successfully did so in the spring of 1926. This well known and notorious leopard terrorized life in the hills of the colonial United Provinces for full eight years. Its hunt was Corbett’s most sustained and unique effort. It was surely the only big cat trophy where he also posed himself in pictures, happy and proud on his achievement (and he must be).
