The mark IV VW Jetta/Golf used by Smyth Performance as the base - TopicsExpress

The mark IV VW Jetta/Golf used by Smyth Performance as the base for its kit cars and trucks is one of the toughest small car platforms ever made. The window lifts broke, the sunroofs leaked and it had a few electrical gremlins...but once you fix the little stuff that must have driven regular car buyers crazy...it is probably the best all around package ever sold. Simple engine mods give you 300 lbs ft in the tdi diesel, a chip and downpipe give you 215 hp in a 1.8t, and the vr6 and vr6T variants sound like a flat crank V8 at speed. This is why the Smyth truck and G3F are so much fun. And the price? Usually a perfect car is under 5 grand... and under a thousand bucks for car with needs. Fantastic. These things are crushed with 300k miles of service life left.
