The market was packed. I forgot that this is the 5th of the month...a day that SNAP food benefits are loaded on cards. Families with their little hordes of snotty nosed urchins...well, some of the kids are cute and well mannered...a few. Running and screaming up and down the aisles. A little Latino boy was running and looking back at a sibling that was catching up to him...he ran smack into my shopping cart. Whap! Knocked himself down to the floor. I moved around to look down at him, You okay? He jumped up squalling for momma...yep, hes okay. I grabbed just a few essentials and ran to the check out. There were the usual oblivious shoppers that park their carts in the middle of the aisle and blankly stare at the shelves like a deer in the headlights...just more of them. The best choice today was just to hit reverse and go around by another route. More kids running wild. Some mothers yelling at them, You never listen to me! Way to go with that positive re enforcement. Then the ones that just ignore their offspring as if they werent even there. Shopping carts full and overflowing...sometimes tandem carts. Of course, some of them stocked with sugar products and carbohydrates and soda. Some fathers/husband along...glassy eyes, just along to load and unload the bounty. I usual like to observe people...but there can be too much of a good thing. A hasty retreat and a bit of sun-soaking and appreciation for near perfect weather. Jeanann, always happy to see me return as if i had been gone all day...let her run around a while. God is good. Fecundity is no problem in North Tulsa.
