The martyrs were not killed because of their faith. They were killed for treason against Buganda. They were considered to be conspiring with foreign elements to control the royal court. Given what eventually happened, it would appear Mwangas concerns were justified. He was deposed, to be replaced with a toddler. The regents who were left to run the kingdom then promptly sold Buganda to the British, while keeping the best land for themselves and their cronies (chiefs). A concerted effort was then made to paint Mwanga as the bad guy and the sheep swallowed it. Happy Martyrs Day :-)
