The master plan and detailed project report pertaining to the Vizhinjam container terminal and international port has been released by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and the EIA (environmental impact assessment) report is now before the State Pollution Control Board. Public hearing for this will be conducted on July 29 and the recommendations made during this one month period will be incorporated in the report and it will be submitted to Ministry of Environment and Forest for environmental clearance. The estimated cost for the first phase was Rs.3, 840 crore. Oommen Chandy said that the project will be completed in a time bound manner.
