The meaning of cronyism and nepotism. These are two new words that are hard to translate into Iban because cronyism and nepotism only exist in Sarawak when Barisan Nasional comes into power. Remnants of cronyism, nepotism and corruption continue to stay with the government Chief Minister Adenan Satem inherited from former chief mnister Abdul Taib Mahmud, Sarawak DAP claims. One example of such corruption cited by state DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen is the appointment of Gerald Rentap Jabu, son of Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu, as a board member of state-owned Syarikat Sesco Berhad. Nepotism is wrong because crucial jobs are given to relatives of these in power, regardless of their qualifications. Consequently, folks who are well qualified for the jobs are being sidelined. How do you feel, if your own relatives who are well qualified were passed over, simply because the jobs were given to non qualified relatives and friends of the ruling elites?
