The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Latvia On December 12, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, who arrived in Yerevan on an official visit. Welcoming the guest, Minister Nalbandian attached significance to the continuous political dialogue between Armenia and Latvia that adds to the comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation. Expressing gratitude for the invitation to visit Yerevan and warm reception, Minister Rinkēvičs noted, that Latvia will undertake additional steps towards further enhancement of friendly relations with Armenia. During the meeting Ministers Nalbandian and Rinkēvičs mentioned with satisfaction that the relations of Armenia and Latvia have developed dynamically over the recent period, and during the past years the Presidents of two states as well as the Foreign Ministers paid mutual visits, meetings on the sidelines of different conferences were held. Edward Nalbandian and Edgars Rinkēvičs touched upon the organization of mutual visits, further steps towards the development of political, economic, cultural spheres and that of education between the two states, and towards the enhancement of legal framework. Holding of periodic consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, cooperation within the international organizations were on the agenda of the meeting. During the meeting, the inter-parliamentary interaction between the two states was touched upon. The sides noted that the legal framework between Armenia and Latvia has been enhanced recently and attached importance to the inclusion/completion of new agreements in it. Armenia-European Union cooperation was discussed in the context of Latvia’s Presidency in the EU during the first half of 2015. Issues on the expansion of trade and economic cooperation were on the ministerial meeting agenda. In this regard, importance was placed to the organization of business forums. Edward Nalbandian presented his Latvian counterpart the efforts exerted by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs towards the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the situation created as a result of the shooting down by the Azerbaijani armed forces of helicopter of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army during a training flight. The sides exchanged thoughts on pressing international issues, i.e. the Ukrainian crisis, developments unfolding in the Middle East. The joint press conference followed the ministerial meeting.
