The members of SAPS Pietermaritzburg detective services are making an urgent appeal to the public regarding a robbery at a local cash and carry depot. It is alleged that during the early hours of Thursday morning, June 27, at about 3am, a group of unknown armed suspects confronted two security guards who were guarding the Save Cash and Carry traders depot along Winston Road in Pietermaritzburg. It is alleged that the suspects forced the victims out of the guard house, tied their hands and feet with belts and shoes laces and took them to a nearby railway line where one of the suspects kept guard. It is further alleged that the other suspects then returned to the premises where they forced open a window to the building and cut the burglar guard bars. They then proceeded to the office where they blew up the safe and removed a large undisclosed amount of cash and airtime, and fled from the scene. There were no injuries sustained to the victims and no arrests made. Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Lieutenant Siphiwe Gwala at 033 845 2743 or 072 025 8817. Those wishing to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Police investigations continue.
