The members of the Nashwaak valley fire dept would like, at this time, thank Charlie and Debbie Smith for their many years of service to the department and the community. Charlie and Debbie have given many years to us and have decided its time to retire. Along the years theyve become grandparents to Hannah and Addie and love to spend time spoiling those two beautiful girls. Charlie has been a firefighter for 15 years, as well as a medical first responder, often answering the call in the middle of the night, or dragging himself out from under the vehicle he was working on as well as responding from work. Always willing to jump into whichever job that he was needed for most, always ready to get to work. Debbie served as an auxiliary member for 10+ years, becoming a medical first responder along the way and dispatcher. She would often be at the firehall in the wee hours of the morning making sandwiches and coffee for the members on scene as well as responding to accident scenes to render help to the injured. Always helpful, always cheerful. Charlie and Debbie are givers in so many ways... Both are 50+ time blood donators! Something only a special few can say. That takes dedication and caring : ) We will miss you both in so many ways. We wish you happiness and much enjoyment in your newfound freedom and time with loved ones.
