The memory of Emperor Nicholas II was preserved among the Serbian people at a time when we could not even say his name out loud, when we could only speak badly of him. But truth possesses great strength. Sometimes we see how grass penetrates - how life penetrates - the asphalt. So it is with truth - she cannot be hidden under asphalt or concrete; sooner or later, truth will enter into the life of successive generations. And the truth of the sacrificial struggle of the Sovereign Emperor Nicholas II grew through the metal and concrete slab placed upon his name. I would like to thank the people and government of Serbia, as well as my own compatriots, who did much to see the memory of this great man memorialized in this wonderful monument. In the Russian language, the words memory and monument (memorial) have a common root.
