The mercury is rising & it’s a getting hotter! Motivating - TopicsExpress

The mercury is rising & it’s a getting hotter! Motivating yourself to go for a workout in the heat can be hard, but Not if you are jumping into a big pool, or the ocean, and getting a cool down whilst you are working up a sweat! Working out in the water is also one of the best workouts you can do! I’ll never forget my first aqua class, it was a revelation! I could not believe how hard it was to perform all the stuff we do on land, but in the water: my heart rate was up, my legs were burning after 10 sets of 50 kicks in the water and using aqua dumbbells under the water was like a weights workout. To make sure I did not float off, I had to really engage my core and switch on all my stabilising muscles. As I left the water after 45 minutes of sprints, treading water, boxing, kicking in every direction, my body felt pretty heavy, but there was no soreness the next day; actually it helped me recover from a previous workout I did on land, as the moving water acted like a masseuse, and got my circulation going. We’ve pretty much used Aqua to help us during times of injury, and for recovery, for the last several years. Our aqua clients are a mixed bunch, all ages, all fitness levels and all levels of injuries! We tend to leave the ‘exercise to music’ to those with choreographing skills and we treat the water like any of our Zulu circuit classes: we program our workouts to get a full body workout, from head to toe. We use equipment like dumbbells and noodles to intensify the workout, specifically the suspended moves (both feet off bottom of pool). If you’d like to try a circuit- style class in the water, then join us every Tuesday, 630pm at Avoca Swim Centre or book a private session for your sports team to aid recovery and keep the fitness levels going.
