I had just finished leading a Bible study for our church in Westcliffe. The mother of a friend of mine sometimes attends these studies. Ironically, she is a Mormon and yet continues to attend the Sunday services led by the pastor, and she occasionally attends the Tuesday night studies as well. She recently wanted to meet with me to try to convert me to Mormonism. So I agreed to meet after our study last night. Whenever I have my boys with me, I always invite them to listen to these types of discussions, whether they are discussions with those of other faiths or simply other philosophies. I believe that not only is homeschooling beneficial, I also believe that from their very youth they should be exposed to these types of discussions so that not only can they see how their father defends his Christian worldview; it also provides them the opportunity to begin synthesizing and processing all information to which they are exposed, sifting out the bad and assimilating the good. Some parents would discourage me from doing this for fear my sons might be dissuaded from the truth of Scripture. I do not share this fear. I believe that God is indeed compelling our minds either toward or against truth, and that if these boys are meant to believe the Gospel (or already have believed the Gospel), that God-given faith will never cease. On the other hand, no amount of Gospel truth will ever convince them if God does not open their eyes to see who He is and what He does.
