The message out is to celebrate campuses meeting a passing rate of 50% in some areas. How high are we setting our expectations, especially when the focus is back on testing and not on effective teaching and support of it. Additional resources should not be added to remedial courses just so that we can meet the minimum standard. We should always be reaching for a higher standard. I have always said that you build capacity in your staff, support them fully to teach the standards and make learning fun. What good does it do our students who meet the minimum and yet have no long lasting skills or knowledge? When the standards have been taught well then students will perform well. Take away the weeks of test prep and sacrifice of valuable instructional time then you will see results. Kuddos to the staff who worked hard to focus on teaching and learning.
