"The middle class is fortunate to have a senator like Bernie Sanders to point out the fact that congressional Republicans’ refusal to negotiate a deal to avert the interest hike in good faith will put an additional burden on the shoulders of millions of beleaguered middle-class families, who are still struggling to emerge from the rubble of the Great Bush Recession. “We have a whole generation of young people struggling to make it into the middle class. They can’t afford to go to college in many cases…. And now what we say to this entire generation is we’re going to double your interest rates. I think that is totally absurd for the middle class of this country and for our entire economy.”
