The midfielder has shone this season following his return from a long-term injury, helping the Red Devils put together a late title bid during an impressive run of form. Carricks impact on the team has been so dramatic that Louis van Gaal has wasted no time in naming him as the clubs new vice-captain, sharing duties with West Ham target Darren Fletcher behind main skipper Wayne Rooney. And speaking to the clubs official website, Carrick revealed that he is relishing the opportunity to lead the club whenever he gets the chance He said I had a chat to the manager about [being named vice-captain] and its great for me for him to think like that. Its probably a natural thing with me being one of the older players and more experienced, thats the natural step – its great. I managed to be captain when Wayne missed a game [Stoke in December], which was nice, but its not the be all and end all of everything. Its achieving things with the team that means more to me, but its nice to be recognised.
