The military is playing an unfortunately disappointing role in the politics of Buharis certificate saga. A few weeks back they confirmed that they had copies of Buharis certificate just as they did that of other ex-officers. They had categorically stated that if Buhari wanted to have his documents he was free to apply for them. One would have thought that with that statement the military had assumed a final position depending on whether or not Buhari decided to exercise his rights to demand for their release or they were compelled to do so by a legally constituted body empowered to order for their release. This is the professionalism, discipline and impartiality that the army had all the while been noted for. The decision of the Nigerian Army to now unsolicitedly and without compulsion join the fray and drag itself into a needless political exercise is very unfortunate. Even with its statements at the press conference it is clear to any discerning mind that something is not right. The military could not inequivocally declare that it was NEVER in possession of Buharis certificate... the spokesman could only allude to the fact that it is not currently in possession of the document..... Did they have the document and no longer not have it??? There is no clarity on that....The statement of the Army does not in any way discredit Buharis claim (which was that as far as he was aware,) that his certificates were with the military. It is sad that the military is dragging itself into this and thereby harming its integrity which has only recently been hurt by its double-speak on the Chibok girls... the Nigerian Army does not need this. My sadness at the Armys unfortunate unfortunate decision to dabble into messy politicking was further deepened when I read this submission by Chuma Okoye which undoubtedly was an attack on the integrity of the Military hierarchy. Under Jonathan, the law office of solicitors handling the suit against Jonathans eligibility was burgled and documents stolen. Under Jonathan, tge military lied that they had rescued Chibok girls. Under Jonathan, the military lied that they know where the Chibok girls were. Ubder Jonathan, the military and DSS et al were swindled into signing a bogus ceasefire agreement. Now, the military with Jonathan as commander-in-chief says they dont have Buharis certificates.
