The mind grows calm by living the present moment, by breathing calmly and quietly. By concentrating on breathing out, you can change your thoughts. Fears are linked to thoughts. By breathing out slowly and in automatically you can banish fears and change your thoughts. Then wisdom will grow. If you feel overcome by anger, jealousy, passion, take long, slow, deep breaths into your Hara under your navel, and you will become calm.
