The misuse of other species....this is a human conflict involving what weve been taught, what we want to believe, what we want to deny, what we believe in our souls to be wrong and what we actually want to do. Weve been taught the untruth that we need to eat another living being to survive,.... how that living being gets from their existence to our dinner plate seems to be something we have no control over. If the living being suffers and we empathize, we are in conflict with our certainty that we have to eat a life to survive. If we eat a living being and acknowledge that he/she suffered we feel the emotional/psychological/spiritual consequences. To avoid feeling such consequences, we deny, joke or ridicule those who attempt to show us otherwise. If others attempt to show us that we are believing an untruth and attempt to expose the cruelty of our actions, it conflicts with our denial, we laugh, create jokes (about bacon and the like) or....we become violent in our opposition. The three stages of truth are said to be: 1) Ridicule, 2) Violent Opposition, 3) Acceptance. If it is true that slaughter of another sentient living being is inhumane, then there can be no denying that it is inhumane to slaughter. There is nothing about slaughter that is funny or a joke. Violent opposition becomes meaningless and all that is left as possible responses are: To accept or to reject. Will we accept the truth that imprisonment, enslavement, abuse and slaughter is unacceptable across the board? Or...will we reject this as truth and continue on with behaviors that only serve to appease the taste buds of one species? Therein lies a fundamental human dilemma. If all humans committed to educating themselves about the truths behind the use of living beings as food products, I am quite certain that denial, ridicule and violent opposition would quite quickly become....ACCEPTANCE.
