The modern Middle Ages exists also in Europe - In June 2005, in Tanacu, in Romania, the young nun Irina Cornici, 23, was crucified by the sisters of the monastery, on the order of Daniel, an orthodox priest with some exorcism mania, convinced that she was "possessed by the devil", probably because of some epileptic attaks. Before being crucified Irina was kept bound hand and foot for several days and deprived of food and water. The romanian writer Tatiana Niculescu Bran has drawn a novel from that story, "Deadly Confession (Spovedanie la Tanacu)".
