The modern police force is racist, authoritarian, elitist, and anti-democratic:The order that the police protect is the order of the state, capitalism, and white supremacy. Police are a result of the convergence of white supremacy, slavery, and capitalism. The conditions which they themselves created, at the behest of the wealthy and racist, are the genesis and cause of most citizen-on-citizen anti-social behavior. However their primary function is not to keep the peace between citizens, their primary function is to protect and maintain the social/political hierarchy. The excuses given to justify their existence and behavior are circular, the crime which is a consequence of the inequalities they have created is used to scare people in to supporting their existence. Beyond that the excuses are mired in the same sort of psychology which is used to legitimize the behavior of abusers. Excuses for the police typically lack historical context, are unable to solidly and consistently identify the role of the police, take police violence as an unquestionable given, and are intolerant to any discussion to the philosophical or moral justifications.
