The moment before we headed off to the Beijing Olympics my coach Yury Gelman said We are ready!!! with so much confidence and pride in his voice. He was absolutely right as we came home with silver medals. Seeing this moment gives me the chills and so glad it was captured on video!! We didnt know this at the time, but Yury had been diagnosed with cancer and he was putting off chemotherapy so he could be there to coach us in Beijing. He kept this fact a secret from our team until after the Games because he didnt want anything to distract us. It makes this moment so much more meaningful and powerful since he was carrying this burden on his shoulders to the Olympic Games but he was still 100% focused on doing whatever he could to help us achieve our Olympic dream. So glad he was able to beat cancer and that we were all able to share and achieve our Olympic dream together in Beijing. Yury has been my coach now 15 years and counting!
