The moment that Hamish Lilley (Yr 13) has been anticipating since late last year has arrived. In November, Hamish was selected as one of 12 students from throughout New Zealand to join the 13 day Young Blake Expedition to the Auckland Islands. Today he leaves Dunedin to head to Auckland where he will join the HMNZS Wellington. While in the Auckland Islands, he, and the other students will join scientists in carrying out a feasibility study for the establishment of a research station on the Islands. As part of being awarded this opportunity, Hamish is required to help inspire and mobilise New Zealanders about our marine environment. He already has plans in place for several talks on his return. We wish him well on this exciting venture.
