The money was meant to feed the poor and hungry, to lift up the needy and downtrodden around the world and to ensure that an Indianapolis church remains Downtown to fill its vital and historic mission of community outreach. Instead, according to a federal lawsuit, millions of dollars were wasted on bad investments and exorbitant fees because of JPMorgan Chase and Co.s self-dealing and mismanagement of two Christ Church Cathedral trust funds endowed by the late Eli Lilly Jr. ************************** This is why I am fundamentally opposed to church incorporation. The idea of a church possessing a budget and hoarding capital to trade and invest like a business entity is simply ludicrous. We all know what Christ did to the money changers in the Jerusalem Temple... (It never fails to amaze me how rich church corporations are and how much they spend on it in investment, generating more capital instead of using it for welfare. Money has become an end unto itself.) Of course, I understand that capital is necessary to maintain church buildings and pay staff and clerics and all... which is why all of those must also go. The Kingdom of God does not dwell in buildings made by man but in hearts seeded by the Word of God. The Church needs no priest other than the High Priest who makes tireless intercessions day and night without needing a pay cheque. We need not be taught by seminary trained clerics learning from musty tomes but the Word of God is sufficient and perspicuous unto salvation and righteousness.
