The month of Duir begins today, named for the Oak, tree of strength, honor, and male virility. Oak is strong and straight. Oaks live for hundreds of years, growing gnarled and wise. Oak teaches us about patience & steadfastness. The acorn, oak trees’ seed, is a symbol of hope, nourishment, and the future. June is often a time of endings: end of school, spring weather, and for some the fiscal year; but also a time of beginnings: summer vacation, travel, and the bounty of summer gardens. It is a masculine time of year, when we move into fire and yang energies of the summer months. As we near the summer solstice, meditate on your own strength. Imagine yourself and oak reaching high into the sky and deep into the earth. Or sit at the base of an oak and ask that it lend you strength and virility.
