The monthly meeting of the Mahanoy and Mahantongo Historical Society will be held Tuesday, November 18th at 7 p.m. at Trinity Church in Dalmatia. Dale Reiner and Hector Hoover will speak about the history of Hoovers Island. The islands have a rich history, including three farms, a school and seventeen cottages used by wealthy individuals as a resort. The islands are now owned by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and are designated as wildlife propagation areas. There will be many photos from life on the island, along with some memorabilia. The meeting is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
