The moral law of God is all that we need to uncover the covenant of works in both the garden in Eden and throughout redemptive history. In some sense, the law and the covenant of works are the same. As with the covenant of works, the law explains the legal terms of relationship with God. The covenant of works has blessings and curses, and the law has blessings and curses. Moreover, they are both unilaterally given to man by God; they are both legal and forensic in nature; and, they are both relational in nature. They are both forensic and relational in nature because out of them both flows justice and love. For the same law that demands loving relationships, also warns of legal justice for all covenant/relationship breakers. Therefore, in this sense, wherever we see the law imposed upon man, we see all the major elements of the covenant of works.
