The more I learn, and the more I open my heart, to how animals - TopicsExpress

The more I learn, and the more I open my heart, to how animals behave and respond, the more I can see that they are - very clearly - trying to communicate with us! Trying to get along with us! I watched a show on the problems with Polar Bears in northern Canada the other day. Bear communication is very similar to dog communication, and it was kinda neat to see/hear this from the researcher doing the work to try to help the Polar Bears and Humans get along in those communities. We create our own problems - invading wild space, dumping our garbage everywhere, and mostly, expecting animals to be something theyre not. We expect them to live in, and understand, our world. Dogs/animals put a huge amount of effort in to trying to figure us out, and they try their very best to fit in to our worlds and in to our societies. Yet, we put very little effort, in comparison, to understanding them and in to trying to effectively communicate with them. We expect them to do what we want/say just because thats what we demand from them. Hurting, punishing, frightening, killing, will NEVER SOLVE our problems with the animals we share the planet with! Kindness, empathy, and respect - will! In the bear program, the team put out rewards - food - further away from the town where the bears were invading, looking for food, scavenging the dumps and garbage bins, and, oh surprise, the bears chose the food source further away from the human populations over the dump and garbage bins - instantly! Problem solved! But, will the human race make it a priority, put in the extra effort, to keep up this program? Or, will they simply continue to dump their waste at their convenience, and hurt, punish, kill the bears that wander in to their towns? FOOD/TREATS WORK FOR CHANGING BEHAVIOURS OF ANIMALS!!! In the program, the team put seal meat in to big metal barrels with grids welded on each end (much like our Kongs for dogs, except ... Waaaay bigger, lol! Kept the bears amused for hours - and away from getting in to trouble in town :D
