The more I talk with people about orphan care the more I find, - TopicsExpress

The more I talk with people about orphan care the more I find, they’re not asking if there’s a big orphan problem in the world or if it’s a good Chrisitian thing to get involved in. They know the answers to both those questions are yes. What they’re asking is whether or not the costs to them are something they are willing to accept, and if in the end the sacrifices and inconveniences will be bearable and worth it. Their questions are how will it effect their family dynamics, can they afford it, what impact will it have on their biological kids, what if they fall in love with a child that they have to give back? These, and others like them, are the real, raw, honest questions people are asking, and these are the questions we have to start answering if we want to see the Church rise up, get involved and be the solution. Yes, raise awareness about the need. Yes, talk about Gods heart for this and the Churchs responsibility in it. But dont stop there, otherwise youll perpetually be answering questions very few are asking without ever addressing the struggle most everyone is facing. Move people outside of themselves. Draw them above the questions theyre really asking. Fill them with a vision for what this could look like in their lives - a vision they cant see yet but need help forming. Help them see Jesus in all of this, not just working for them but working through them, to bring hope and opportunity for others just as He has so graciously done for them. That when all other fears and concerns and apprehensions are set aside, in that moment of clarity when were left with nothing but Jesus, its impossible to not be compelled on some level to love the marginalized just as He has so beautifully loved us. Help them to see that, in light of the Gospel, the answers to all their questions are yes - yes, its worth it. Always. The more I talk with people about orphan care the more I find, thats the answer theyre looking for.
