The more I think about it, the more suspicious I am getting. The Chinese have supposedly begun construction on the port in North Abaco, with not a single Bahamian to be seen. Add to this the fact that the Chinese labourers speak no English. Or they just playin crazy. Furthermore, this port is not an insignificant undertaking, either financially or logistically. There is at least 5 miles of dredging in my estimation, that will have to be done just to accommodate the port itself, if it is to be a deep water port. I still cannot get my head around how this is going to be a viable undertaking, as there is a very large, world class port facility right next door in Freeport. The Chinese built the new stadium in Nassau, purportedly as a gift to the Bahamian people. Yeah right. They are building an enormous resort in western Nassau by the name of Baha Mar. They have just purchased the Hilton (British Colonial) hotel in Nassau, and they are proposing to clean up downtown Nassau. Should we just start singing praises to The Chinese for attempting to rescue our economy? Or should we be wondering what is going on? Consider this, as Ive already posted about, that our government just recently did an about turn on their proposal to purchase several new generators for the BEC plant at Clifton Pier in Nassau. The (Chinese) Baha Mar project will need several megawatts of power I am sure. BEC is absolutely incapable of fulfilling this need. Also consider this: Chinas economy just recently surpassed that of the United States. Chinas economy is growing like wildfire, and there are more new millionaires made there every day that anywhere else in the world. Due to this tremendous growth, there is a HUGE need for natural resources in China, which China itself does not possess. Remember, there is oil in Bahamian waters. We just recently found that out. Finally, the location of The Bahamas, in its proximity to the United States, mustnt be overlooked in all of this either. Saviours? Or Occupiers? Well see I guess, as this government is absolutely in bed with The Chinese, and I do not think that any future administration will seek to undo any of it. Well be in too deep, and well be too dependent. Chinese proverb: “May you live in interesting times”. Well we certainly do.
