The more deeply you listen to another person the more they know they are being heard and the more they experience a profound sense of value when they are with you. If your goal in the conversation is simply for you to be heard, not only will the other person not be heard, they will hear you loudly and clearly devaluing and rejecting them by the volume of your heart, which speaks louder than the content of your words.
