The more free a country is, especially economically free, where the Government is not dictating what a business should do, where people can invest, sound money, regulation, etc., the better the population lives! When one compares size of Government vs population, GDP, the amount of burdensome regulation, they discover that the freer a country is, the more prosperous a country is. In the year 2000 we were #3, after passing the Patriot Act and other things, we fell to #18! Without exception, the middle class of the bottom quarter of nations does not live as well as the poorest of the top quarter! Today in the USA, many who wish to improve to plight of the poor want more Government restrictions, regulations, less freedom, and to take from the ones they determine who have too much. The very opposite of what actually works to improve living standards. Here are the hard facts of reality (not emotional based decision making): If you really want to help poor people, what you want to do is to help create a free society where business can prosper, instead of taking from the productive for safety nets. This drags down all of society and causes a slide toward poverty for even more! The old adage remains true: What the Government pays for, it gets more of and it cannot be more true than the welfare society in America. (9 Trillion has been spent so far and we now have multiple more poor. This is not the solution.) The more socialist a country becomes, the more likely the chance of the slide toward poverty. The reason I am posting is to fight against mass poverty, brought about by a statist, idealistic policy of socialism which has never worked in the history of humanity, and one in which the USA is racing towards. IMO, if you wish to truly help the poor, (beyond helping an individual Papa directs you toward), then working for freedom is the proven strategy. freetheworld/2012/EFW2012-complete.pdf
