The morning of 9/11 I was back in Pensacola, Florida between ministry trips. When my housemate Dace told me about the second plane, we realized we were under attack. No one knew how widespread (or limited) the assault would be. I threw on my un-ironed shirt, tucked my 9mm in the back, and headed to our church & Bible College to see what would unfold. When I arrived, no leadership was on scene yet, but dozens of students were pouring in. The soundman gave me the mic as we organized an impromptu prayer meeting. School dismissed early that day, so my best friend and I did what only seemed right -- we ate at Boy on a Dolphin, one of the best seaside restaurants on the Gulf. It was a time of uncertainty, and there are still many unanswered questions about that day and the wars that followed. Still, I can say that Im grateful for this nation, our troops, and the peace we enjoy within our borders. May we be as jealous to export this same peace to the nations.
