The most amazing thing happened to me today: as a result of the story about Dad posted by author Elinor Florence on her Wartime Wednesday blog (elinorflorence/blog/jewish-pilot), I received a message via Elinor that her blog had been seen by my fathers best boyhood friend and that he wanted to contact me. I spent a wonderful 40 minutes on the phone with him this evening, and he confirmed that he had eaten at Dads Hanover home many times from age 8-18, and had good memories of my grandmother (who Id never met). Hes approaching 96 years of age, and had very vivid descriptions of his time spent with my Dad as a boy. Sadly, while he was able to escape just before the outbreak of hostilities, all of his immediate family members were murdered by the Nazis. He now lives in Chicago. The internet: what a powerful tool!
