The most fervent Face Bookers I know are social justice activists and writers. This space was created for people like us. It provides a platform for instant blogging around social justice issues - for sharing and for research. It is a platform to advocate for justice and make a noise. It is a great space for civil disobedience - or to share the voices of people from areas most will never travel too. It is also a space to be playful and anecdotal and brag about your childs quirkiness or share pics of your dogs etc. Those of us who are in the business of communication love this space and treat it like a virtual office and archive too. We know intelligence is watching us so we speak to them in coded challenges ... ;) This is just one platform of many we use to share our work, our politics and our activism. There are newspaper columns, TV stations, other blog sites, Radio et al also in the mix. It is a way of life - NOT a pathology. I really have no time for those who write-off your work as a sickness because it does not fit their status quo. Those limited views are your own problem. Personally I would hate to occupy the world of those who do not see the personal as the political or who do not want to excavate the issue of how our individual spaces have impacted others.
