The most gorgeous Care Bear... Our Receptionist, Claire Miller tells us about her Cream Bears recovery from Toxoplasmosis. I had the Cream Bear as a hand rear case at a few days old and he was quite poorly with diarrhoea. He had no control and was constantly having to be bathed and blow dried as a result. He was still drinking well and gaining weight but I was concerned so we did an in house faeces sample which revealed he had Toxoplasmosis. He was instantly put on a treatment plan for 4-6 weeks and had to be completely isolated from any other animals and humans. This was hard work as I have my own dogs and kittens and of course had to bring him to work with me and keep him isolated but I managed to get in to a little routine and would spend every evening with the cream bear in the kitchen while he played and enjoyed getting his tummy tickled. It was difficult as I had to wear gloves and an apron when handling him and had to be extremely careful when disposing of his litter and bedding. Over the four weeks he was improving slightly day by day but really turned a corner when I weaned him on to solids. I gave him the Royal Canin weaning biscuits which I use for all my hand rears and he continued to have a bottle of milk in the morning and evening as I had to ensure he was getting his medication. After four weeks on his treatment, we sent off a further fasces sample to the IDEXX lab and I was delighted this week to hear that hes had the all clear. Hes since been able to mix with my cats and dogs and absolutely loves to play and enjoys cuddles with woody my Dalmatian! Hard work and dedication really does pay off!! :))
