The most important character trait you can teach an autistic child is patience with the world of neurotypicals, because that is the world in which they will be living and to which they need to find a way to adapt. For most folks, success in life is not based upon how smart you are, but how well you can produce within neurotypical parameters. For kids who thrive in the neurotypical world, teach them self control - the greatest indicator of future success per results of decades long research.
