The most important thing when sending needs to another country or mission is Research their needs , culture and skills . Look into viability of the goods going across . For example most areas of Vanuatu dont have plug in power so electric sewing machines are quite un needed for most villages , prams are not used much either . Electric washing machines are not viable either . The last thing you want to be doing as a mission is to supply goods that become waste , i have seen villages in vanuatu with old electricals in rubbish piles because they have been sent over and yet they had no plug in power . Theres no use sending machines to hospitals where there is no technicians to keep the machine maintained . There are many wonderful people trying to help developing nations but its important that you research the needs and dont create a rubbish dump . Some nations dont have big values on toys and in some parts of Vanuatu there are warehouses full of items donated of unwanted and inappropriate goods . So please research before just sending over goods . Make sure it can be used and has value to empowering the community . Not creating cultural change and rubbish . Work with other groups to create efficient donating , discuss with organised groups not just locals in villages , they tend to say yes so not to offend and not realising the implications of sending unwanted needs , think about sustainibility and empowerment , try to send goods that will help them to help themselves , think about sharing , how many in a village and can you provide every child with a bike , otherwise it does create friction and internal village problems . Sometimes it takes us longer to research then it does to send the goods . At needs 4 change we have the motto if its not good enough for us here in Australia its not good enough for overseas , working alongside many group with long term experience and under the WORLD health order and UNITED nations donation policies .where possible buy the items from the nation , saving freight costs and also keeping employment opportunities in the area you are helping ,
