The most rewarding part of rehab nursing is seeing people come in at their sickest and leave as independently as possible. The worst part of rehab nursing is that inevitable admission where, this time, there will be no bouncing back. It is at these times, when nurses and CNAs witness the end of life, that we must cling most tightly to the reasons we chose our careers in the first place. Reasons of love and compassion and the full knowledge that every single day holds this as a very real possibility...when comfort, compassion, and love is all we have left to offer and our greatest hope is that its enough.
