The music at David’s Tent is excellent, John Mark Macmillan, Jonathan Hesler, Jason Upton, Sean Feucht. I started listening to these guys after my daughter Zoe came back from Toronto with her iPhone full of them. (Well, to be precise, she came back without her iPhone which she lost on a missions trip to the Bridge, Gadsden, Alabama, a C Christian residential home for drug-addicted youth. BUT it was backed up ☺) Anyway, many of them seem to have one big song which lights up the venue. John Mark McMillan’s rich Oh how he loves me https://youtube/watch?v=KW7CD29V4tU, Hesler’s incredibly beautiful Endless Oceans, https://youtube/watch?v=T29Dg-540kc which I could listen to, well, forever. There are other musicians who are also known for a single song, Jenny Riddle for Revelation Song which I adore https://youtube/watch?v=MUSiXaARV6U and Phil Wickham for You’re Beautiful. What’s going on? John Mark McMillan beautifully explains here—trying to recapture yesterday’s song, burn-out, expectations, business… johnmarkmcmillan.wordpress/2012/08/28/this-is-a-big-deal-for-me-reissuing-the-song-inside-the-sounds-of-breaking-down/ Two things are imperative for an artist—giving yourself even if you are shiny one day, and mediocre the next. That way you can keep playing, keep experimenting, keep growing. The other is that you always keep your spiritual life vibrant so that you are always connected to eternal springs. Worship at David’s Tent yesterday was led by John Mark Macmillan, who song “Oh how he loves me. Love’s like a hurricane, I am a tree, Bending beneath the weight Of his wind and mercy.” When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory, And I realise just how beautiful You are, And how great Your affections are for me. And oh how I love that song. Mainstage sound cuts off at 10.30, to move to lesser-name bands who worship through the night. John Mark Macmillan cut off with his great song; it was simultaneously picked up by a newer band at the back, Matt Seithel who continued singing it, so joyously. There were couches at the back, and I enjoyed curling up, just worshipping God in peace and quiet and anonymity.
