The musical theatre play Kid Dynamite at the Thalia Theatre in Paramaribo, Suriname, February 7-10 2014. Lodewijk Rudolf Arthur Parisius, who went by the name Kid Dynamite was a Surinamese saxophone player (played by Mike Libanon) who came to Holland as a stowaway in the 1930s and became a big name in the Amsterdam Jazz scene, Jazz being quite new in Holland at that time. His Dutch wife Bep Overweg was being played by Thirsa van Til. Raymi Sambo played the singer Max Woiski and Mikey Neslo was being palyed by Ssergio Romero IJssel. They were all Surinamers who had to deal with hard times ánd Dutch racism during those years and world war II. Esgo Heil played the Dutch police3 commisioner Versteegh, Yootha Wong Loi Sing was the story teller and I myself played Lady Deedee, owner of one of the in those days (at first) very popular so called Negro clubs. Terrific and most swinging music was played by the band Fra Fra Sound with Efraim Trujillo (saxophone)l , Michael Simon (trumpet), Vincent Henar (bass) , Walther Eddy Muringen (drums), Carlo Ulrichi Hoop (percussion) and Robin van Geerke (piano). Jörgen Tjon A Fong (Urban Urban Myth Amsterdam) was our fantastic director. In our performances we had ted talks by a.o. Alida Neslo, Charda Ganga, Hellen Kamperveen, Hennah Draaibaar, Erwin Tolin Alexander... And all our activities were more than smoothly coördinated by the most efficient production team of Ann Hermelijns Aco Multi Services. This wonderful photo series by renowned photographer Hedwig de la Fuente (a.k.a. Plu) gives you a great impression of our performances as well as the workshops that our actors and the band did with a group of very talented and enthusiastic Surinamese kids, who also had their own special performance after our last one. Proud of our Surinamese youngsters!
