The name “Nigeria”, deriving from the Niger River, means “the land which the Niger River runs through”. Located in West Africa, Nigeria seats in the middle and lower reaches of the Niger River. Its coast in the south lies on the Gulf of Guinea on the Atlantic Ocean. It is the most populous country in Africa, in which the majority of the population is black. The civilization of Nigeria can be traced back to more than 2,000 years ago. And with the ancient Nok Culture, Ife Culture and Benin Culture derived from the same origin, Nigeria is reputed as the “Cradle of Black Civilization”. The historic ancient city Kano, known as the “desert harbor”, was once the only pass through which camel caravans from West Africa traveled across the Sahara Desert to North Africa and East Africa on business trips. At Kano, there are well-preserved ancient buildings, which represent the complete development history of a traditional West African city, and embody the characteristics of different historical periods.Nigeria still remains “Cradle of Black Civilization”
