The national women’s football team – Ethiopia Vs South Sudan, Harambee Starlets- has been drawn against neighbours Rwanda in the qualifying round for the ninth edition of 2014 Africa Championships slotted for October 11 to 25 in Namibia. Kenya will be making her first appearance in the continental showpiece and will be among 25 nations that have confirmed participation that will vie for seven available places in the finals. Defending champions, Equatorial Guinea, beaten finalists South Africa and third placed Cameroon have received first round byes and will join the qualifiers from the second phase following the draw conducted in Cairo. Kenya failed to travel to Equatorial Guinea in August this year to face the hosts in the FIFA under-17 World Cup qualifiers citing poor communication from the West African Nation. “We have already entered the Championships, all we wait is to assemble the national team and start training” Football Kenya Federation, John Kariuki told Capital Sport. The first leg will kick-off on the weekend of February 13-15 with second leg fixtures scheduled for late February and March. The final round will be played in May and June to decide who joins Namibia for the finals. Equatorial Guinea won the last championship after beating South Africa 4-0 in the final while Cameroon edged Nigeria 1-0 to claim third place. Other fixtures are as follows Algeria Vs Morocco, Egypt Vs Tunisia, Ethiopia Vs South Sudan, Burkina Faso Vs Ghana, Cote d’ Ivore Vs Mali, Guinea Bissau Vs Senegal, Mozambique Vs Comoros, Botswana Vs Zimbabwe, Zambia Vs Tanzania.
