The neat thing about doing any kind of massive social or professional shit at this time of year is that its timed to perfectly coincide with the annual winter katabasis straight into the still heart of despair. It makes for an odd variation of freedom to be truly without hope. Consequence as a concept ceases to register, leaving you free to do anything knowing you will experience no change; for better or worse, there is no more better or worse. It all sounds like static. All actions for any reasons result in one unceasing hiss. When your higher functions of cognition become apparently fruitless, you discontinue your reliance on them, because youre not insane, dammit -- youre not gonna use the same method over and over to achieve a different result, no. Youre gonna sit idly by and maybe watch, captive, as your regularly repressed irrational drives overtake them at the front of your consciousness. The more effort you make to stop them, the closer to legitimately deranged you become. If you want to survive your time down here, you have give in to shades of craziness in order to prevent succumbing to total throbbing madness. Its only a question of which compulsions are first to claw their ways up to the surface.
