The new year always comes with lots of expectations. For me its expecting new good movies. Did a little bit of research on the upcoming movies. Heres my wishlist for the year. This is the first instalment. Starting with Hollywood. 1. INTERSTELLAR: sci-fi thriller on interstellar space travel through wormholes! Absolutely no idea what that is! More the reason to get curious. Reason for me to watch: Christopher Nolan 2. FURY: set at the end of WWII its about a tank commander (Brad Pitt) and his team (Logan Lerman,Shia Lebouf,Jon Brenthal) in a dangerous mission behind enemy lines. Reason for me to watch: I love war movies, specially if they are period pieces. The cast. The director David Ayer (Training Day,End of Watch to his credit). 3. THE MONUMENTS MEN: A platoon is sent to nazi Germany to rescue lost and stolen artworks during the WWII. Reason for me to watch: plenty!!! Directorial venture of George Clooney (did The Ides of March and Good Night and Good Luck earlier). The ensemble of a power-packed cast;Matt Damon,Kate Blanchet,Clooney himself, Jean Dujardin (remember The Artist?),Bill Murray,John Goodman. And ofcourse the interesting storyline. 4. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2: one of the most eagerly awaited movie of the year for my son (and me too). Youll know what I mean if you have watched the previous edition. Would love to see Hiccup and his team as teenagers, since a few years have gone by since their last escapades. 5. THE LEGO MOVIE: the typical lego style now comes to big screen. Has the more popular DC superheroes on-screen plus one common-man lego, who joins the league to save the planet against the lego villain by mistake. Reason for me to watch: Im sure Ill be dragged to the theatre by my son. Myself feeling interested too. Lego style, wow. Channing Tatum finally gets to play the superman, only his voice works here though. Then there is Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson lending voice too. Another strong reason is the director duo Chris Miller and Phil Lord. They created magic with their earlier Cloudy With A Chance Of Mearball, one of the best animations of recent years. 6. BIG EYES:set in the 1950s and 60s this is a biopic on Margaret Keane,a painter, whose children with big eyes were quiet popular at that time, only catch, the credits for her works were taken by her husband Walter Keane! Reason for me to watch:isnt the storyline interesting enough? What makes it all the more interesting is Christoph Waltz playing Walter. If even that isnt enough for you, then the name of the director happens to be Tim Burton!!! 7. THE IMITATION GAME: another biopic on the life of Alan Turing, who became a hero of sorts during the WWII for breaking German enigma codes, later to be brought down to the level of a public enemy for his personal life. Reason for me to watch:recently Alan Turing is in the news for the Royal Pardon. Benedict Cumberbatch portraying Turing is reason enough for me to watch this one. 8. NOAH: The biblical tale of Noah rediscovered. Reason for me to watch:Lots. The epic storyline, the expected visual spectacle, the cast (Russel Crowe as Noah, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connely, Logan Lerman),the director (Darren Aronofsky,to his credit are movies like Pi, The Fountain and the more recent Black Swan). 9. TRANSCENDENCE: sci-fi action thriller. Scientists download human brain into a computer and all hell breaks loose. Reason for me to watch: obviously I cant resist a Johnny Depp starrer. Whats all the more interesting is the debutant director Wally Pfister was the cinematographer for Inception and The Dark Knight series. So expect some firework. 10. GONE GIRL: based on the thriller novel by the same name, its a movie from the director (David Fincher) of Se7en and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (also Curious Case of Benjamin Button,Social Network and Edward Scissorhands!). Reason enough for me to be dragged to the theatres. By the way,Ben Affleck will star in this one, when he isnt too busy donning the cape of Batman! Also releasing: JACK RYAN:SHADOW RECRUIT,a possibly good thriller where a covert CIA agent uncovers a plot to unsettle national economy with terrorist attack. Kenneth Branagh happens to be a decent director and he has roped in Chris Pike,Kevin Costner,Kiery Knightley for the project. MR PEABODY AND SHERMAN,expect a good animation. NEED FOR SPEED, yes now a movie! And yes its from the same stable as the ever popular video game. CAPTAIN AMERICA:THE WINTER SOLDIER,if youre a Marvel comics fan, this might be the movie for you. Captain America makes a return with his entourage of S.H.I.E.L.D. team and an old world enemy,The Winter Soldier,a Russian agent of sorts (how cliched). X-MEN:DAYS OF FUTURE PAST: usual stuff. With time travel this time and Michael Fassbender as the young Magneto. BIRDMAN: Im not sure about this one. Supposedly a comedy/spoof. Reason Im keeping this on the list is Michael Keaton featuring as the lead. Seems like an year of sequel and remakes. The followings are also in the pipeline. ROBOCOP GODZILLA TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES TRANSFORMERS 4:AGE OF EXTINCTION PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5:THE MARKED ONE 300:RISE OF AN EMPIRE RIO 2 AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2 NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 3 THE EXPENDABLES 3 So expect an year full of entertainment ahead. Enjoy.
